Bruno Fernandes' equaliser for Manchester United against Manchester City was shrouded in controversy.

City went 1-0 up through substitute Jack Grealish, who got on the end of Kevin De Bruyne's cross to the far post.

Pep Guardiola's side look like they would see out the game but then United had the ball in the back of the net.

Rashford was clearly offside from Casemiro's through ball and ran towards it. However, he did not touch it and instead allowed Fernandes to come from an onside position and slot past Ederson.

The linesman initially flagged for offside but then it was decided that Rashford had not interfered with play and so the goal was given.

Guardiola was utterly furious and vented to the fourth official, while City players surrounded the referee.

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the decision.

One user wrote: "That goal has to be offside, if Rashford isn’t there then Kyle Walker makes a challenge on Fernandes. Rashford looks like he’s about to shoot so Walker goes back towards goal."

Another said: "Rashford looks like he's going to strike the ball with his left foot before Fernandes strikes it. How they've allowed that goal is beyond me."

A third added: "Confused as to why that stood. Fernandes doesn't get to that if Rashford isn't there."

A fourth commented: "This offside law is ludicrous. Ball clearly played to Rashford. He's clearly in the way blocking Akanji from getting to the ball. This then leaves Fernandes with a free shot. Correct under the current laws, but this highlights how silly the offside law has become."

Not long after the leveller, United completed the turnaround as the in-form Rashford stabbed home form substitute Alejandro Garnacho's left-footed cross inside the area.

Erik ten Hag's side held on to claim a huge win over their rivals, with the result taking them just one point behind them.
