Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named in the FIFA 22 Premier League Team of the Season alongside the likes of Declan Rice, Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 27-year-old Portugal international, who has scored 14 goals in 52 appearances for club and country this season, features in the 15-man squad with a 93-rated card.

Despite United's struggles in recent months, Fernandes continues to be a threat from central areas. In fact, he has created more chances in the Premier League than Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne during the 2021/22 campaign.

If you compare his form to last season, Fernandes' record in front of goal has been poor by his high standards. But the guys over at EA Sports have decided to somewhat controversially hand him a place in the Team of the Season.

The squad features six Liverpool players – Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – while Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva feature for league leaders Manchester City.

Two Manchester United players have been included by EA – Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo, who has notched 18 league goals on his return to Old Trafford.

Son Heung-min is the only Spurs player to make it with a very impressive 95-rated card but Harry Kane, a player that has featured in five of the last six TOTS squads, misses out.

The final place in the team has been given to West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice, who has impressed under David Moyes this season.

BUT WAIT. To the delight of Arsenal fans, Bukayo Saka has also been made available as an unlockable objectives player.

So how did people on social media react to the TOTS squad?

One fan commented: "No Bowen and Robertson but Bruno makes it?" while another wrote: "How does the top scorer and the top assister in the Premier League have the same rating as Cristiano Ronaldo?"

A third said: "Where are the Chelsea players? How can Manchester United, who can’t even get the top four, have two players in this TOTS?"
