Bruno Fernandes has his say on 'frosty' Cristiano Ronaldo handshake

Bruno Fernandes has his say on 'frosty' Cristiano Ronaldo handshake

Fernandes and Ronaldo appeared not to be too happy to see each other on World Cup duty for Portugal but that's not the case.

Bruno Fernandes has spoken out for the first time, after reports of him and Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo sharing a unwelcoming start to Portugal's World Cup squad.

Inside Old Trafford there's a good chance that Ronaldo is the most hated man in the dressing room, following his recent tell all interview.

Though it won't be shown in full until Thursday night, we already know that the United forward believes the club have disrespected him and that Erik ten Hag wants to force him out.

There were some good points about the Glazers but, all in all, most fans will not be too impressed with the 37-year-old's actions.

Some hint at how his United teammates might have been feeling appeared to come in the form of Fernandes, when the pair met on Portugal duty.

They appeared to not be too impressed to see each other, when Bruno arrived late, having played in United's game with Fulham at the weekend.

However, that was denied by teammate Joao Mario, who claimed that the forward was just making a joke about the delayed entrance of his mate.

Now Bruno seems to have backed up those claims with a post on social media, saying, "Oh Joao Mario, there you are ruining the covers of the newspapers."

Being asked about the focus once again being on Ronaldo, during the press conference where he put to bed the Fernandes story, Mario explained Portugal were used to it.

"For us it’s the same, the headlines are always about him so for us it’s quite the same," the Benfica midfielder claimed.

"So I don’t see a problem with the timing because everyone always speaks about Cristiano Ronaldo so it’s fine for us."

It will of course only add more scrutiny to his form during the tournament, with Portugal taking on Ghana in their opening game a week on Thursday.

After that they take on Uruguay, before finishing their group campaign off against South Korea, as Ronaldo chases his first world title.

Whilst the issue with Bruno might not actually be a problem, the five time Ballon d'Or winner did share an awkward moment with another teammate.

During training on Tuesday, he went up to Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo and grabbed him by the head and the face.

The former Inter Milan full back then got fed up and moved away from his teammate and didn't look too impressed with what just happened.

It seems unlikely that the current situation will derail Portugal's chances at winning the World Cup but it won't help them all too much either.
