Brahim Diaz to change his international allegiance despite scoring on Spain debut

Spain international Brahim Diaz will change his international allegiance in the coming weeks, according to reports.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who has represented La Roja at U17, U19 and U21 level, made his senior debut for the national side in June 2021.

In fact, he marked his first appearance by scoring the second goal in a 4–0 friendly victory against minnows Lithuania.

But the Real Madrid man, who has been on loan at Serie A outfit AC Milan for the past two years, has failed to earn another call-up since.

After a frustrating couple of years on the international scene, Diaz appears to have made one of the biggest decisions of his career to date.

The former Manchester City youth product has opted to ditch Spain and represent Morocco – a country he qualifies for due to his grandmother's Moroccan ancestry.

He initially turned down the chance to play for the Atlas Lions ahead of the 2018 World Cup, despite Herve Renard offering assurances that the player would be part of his World Cup squad.

But Diaz has seemingly changed his mind and is now set to switch international allegiance to Morocco after not playing a competitive game for Spain.

That's according to journalist Lino Bacco, who says he is 99.99 per cent sure Diaz will be present when the Morocco squad come together in March to face Colombia and a second South American opponent.

Morocco reached the semi-finals of last winter's World Cup after victories over Spain in the last-16 and Portugal in the quarter-finals.

As a result, they became the first African side to reach the semi final stage of a World Cup.

Diaz, meanwhile, has become a key player for Milan after struggling to break into Real Madrid's team. He has made 23 appearances for the Italian side this season, scoring four goals.
