Bayern Munich ‘expected more’ from Sadio Mane, think Jurgen Klopp is to blame for his decline

Bayern Munich are reportedly disappointed with Sadio Mane’s performances since joining the club last summer.

After six trophy-laden years with Liverpool, Mane decided to leave Anfield for Bayern in a deal worth £42 million.

The Senegal international was tasked with replacing Robert Lewandowski after the Polish striker left the Bavarian club for Barcelona.

However, Mane’s first season with Bayern has been far from ideal. To date, the 30-year-old has only managed 11 goals and five assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

According to Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau, Bayern’s coaching staff and club officials expected more from Mane.

It is believed that Mane is ‘losing too many one on one duels’, which has been a constant issue in training too.

The report also claimed that Bayern feel Mane is lacking the ‘speed and explosiveness’ that made him one of the best players in the world during his time with Liverpool.

It was speculated that Mane’s lack of pace may have been down to the physical demands of Jurgen Klopp’s high-intensity style.

Mane played an average of 50 games per season during his time with the Reds, and it has been reported that wear and tear could be taking its toll on his performances.

Furthermore, Hau claimed that Mane could well be finding it difficult to adapt to Julian Nagelsmann’s system and is struggling with his new position at Bayern.

Recently, Mane spoke about the difference between Klopp and Nagelsmann.

He told DAZN: “Klopp is Klopp. He’s a mix of the old and the new generation. He’s got so much experience and his life is all about football, but he’s also demanding. Sometimes, very, very, very, very much so. He is very emotional and sometimes shouts. Almost ready to fight.

“(Nagelsmann) is rather calmer. In terms of football, I don’t see any major differences. They like the types of players who press high because their teams are high. It’s easier for me because I’ve almost only had German coaches in my career.”
