Barcelona players were furious with Ansu Fati after he blocked a certain goal against Real Madrid

Barcelona were up against rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey

Barcelona players could not hide their frustrations after Ansu Fati blocked what looked like a certain goal against Real Madrid.

On Thursday night, Barcelona took on fierce rivals Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

In what was a largely cagey affair, the game was settled in the first half as an own goal from Eder Militao gave Xavi’s side a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg.

However, Barcelona could have taken a two-goal lead back to the Camp Nou if Fati had gone out of the way.

With 71 minutes on the clock, Barcelona constructed a fine move as Ferran Torres’ pull back fell perfectly in the path of Franck Kessie.

The midfielder’s shot looked certain to be goal bound but ended up hitting Fati on the way.

Kessie and teammate Gavi could not believe their eyes and failed to hide their frustrations. Kessie had his hands on his head and appeared to demonstrate to Fati what he should’ve done to get out of the way of the shot.

Whilst Gavi showed his anger by flinging his arms up in the air.

Luckily for Fati, his intervention did not cost his side as they held on for the narrow win.

Fans were quick to react to Fati’s block.

One said: “Even Gavi was like WTF.”

Another tweeted: “He couldn't at least f**king jump?”

A third fan added: “Madrid fans should thank Ansu Fati for this result. He was the best yours CB tonight.”

After the match, Barcelona boss Xavi said: “I am satisfied with the effort and how we defended. We minimised Madrid's chances at their own ground, where they usually create a lot.

“It was a positive result, which I am happy about, but we have work to do on the ball. The plan was to have long spells of possession and defend with the ball, but we couldn’t.”

The second leg tie will take place at the Camp Nou on 5 April.
