Barcelona have been eliminated from the Champions League with two of their group games still to be played.

The Catalan club were dumped out of the competition after Inter Milan thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 in the earlier kick-off on Wednesday night.

Victory for the Italian side took them to 10 points - two behind group leaders Bayern Munich and six ahead of Barcelona, who face each other in the late kick-off.

It means that at best Barcelona can only match Inter's points tally, with the Italians guaranteed to finish ahead the La Liga side courtesy of their superior head-to-head record.

Inter beat Barcelona 1-0 at the San Siro at the start of the month before dramatically drawing 3-3 away at the Nou Camp.

The Serie A side booked their spot in the last 16 with a comfortable win over Plzen, courtesy of goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Edin Dzeko (2) and Romelu Lukaku.

Inter's victory means Barcelona have been knocked out of the competition with their remaining group games against Bayern and Plzen still to play.

It is the second consecutive season they have been eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage.

Barcelona supporters have voiced their anger on social media at their team's early exit.

Reacting to Barcelona's team news for the Bayern Munich match, one fan wrote on Twitter: "What's the point?"

Another posted: "Busquets again?! We've lost! Xavi is a clown."

While a third wrote: "Barca fans deserve much better than this.

"It's humiliation year after year and we are the ones who have to suffer the embarrassment, not these millionaires."

Fans of rival clubs were also quick to twist the knife after Barcelona's elimination.

"HAHAHAHA EUROPA," posted one supporter on Twitter.

Another joked: "Not enough levers to keep Barcelona in the Champions League."

While a third wrote: "Barca's in the mud."

Barcelona are now guaranteed to finish third in the group and will qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Inter, meanwhile, can still finish top if Bayern Munich drop points against Barcelona and then lose by more than 2-0 to the Italian side in their final group game on November 1.
