Aurelien Tchouameni takes law into his own hands as he gives away bizarre free-kick

Aurelien Tchouameni gave away one of the most bizarre free-kicks you will ever see during France's game against the Netherlands.

France played the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifier in their first appearance since their crushing World Cup final defeat to Argentina.

And they made light work of Ronald Koeman's side, beating them 4-0 - thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Dayot Upamecano and Kylian Mbappe (x2).

Despite not getting on the score-sheet, Tchouameni made headlines following a strange moment in the second-half of the match on Friday.

In the 56th minute, the Real Madrid midfielder received the ball then took one touch before taking the law into his own hands.

He thought the ball felt soft then picked it up before throwing it away. The match referee blew his whistle and awarded a free-kick to the Netherlands.

The 23-year-old and captain Mbappe protested the decision, but that didn't stop the referee from awarding a free-kick against the player.

Fortunately for Tchouameni, his moment of madness didn't prove crucial as the Netherlands failed to make anything out of their free-kick.

But he probably now knows not to handle the ball unless the referee has blown his whistle.

Speaking after the victory, France boss Didier Deschamps praised his team's 'great return'.

He said: "It’s a great return, even if this Dutch side had a few issues. It doesn’t take away from what we achieved, and from the atmosphere, and the fact that we didn’t concede at the end.

"It’s great, it’s important to win at home but now we have another match coming up. We don’t have long to recover."

Two-goal hero Mbappe added: "We prepared all week with a view to not disappoint our fans.

"We wanted to follow in our footsteps from the World Cup, aside from the final. We’re very happy. It’s a good first step, but there’s all to play for in the group."
