Canada star Atiba Hutchinson returns to pitch ‘with tampon up his nose’ during World Cup

Fans are calling it the greatest moment of the 2022 World Cup.

We've witnessed some pretty memorable moments during this World Cup already.

But this one, right here, is up there with the most bizarre.

Canadian footballer Atiba Hutchinson has gone viral online for having ‘a tampon up his nose’ during a game in Qatar.

The Canadians were facing off against Croatia at the World Cup when 39-year-old Hutchinson had a heavy collision with an opposition player.

It left him requiring medical attention and he was swiftly escorted from the pitch.

But to the amazement of the fans inside the stadium and those watching from home, Hutchinson appeared to return to the field with a tampon shoved up his nose – presumably to stop the bleeding.

When footage of Hutchinson's unique look surfaced on social media, people wasted no time in commenting on it.

One person tweeted: "Good time to explain to my 10 year old son what a tampon is."

While another added: "Atiba Hutchinson with a tampon in his nose might be the best moment of this World Cup so far."

Some instantly compared it to an iconic football film.

Hutchinson was making his 100 appearance for Canada – the most out of any men's player from that nation.

It was a historic moment for Hutchinson himself, but unfortunately he was unable to guide his team to victory in Qatar.

Despite leading early on through Alphonso Davies, Canada ended up losing 4-1, effectively sending them crashing out of the tournament.
