The AS Roma fan got the opportunity after a Facebook comment and had to back up his words.

“Even I could have score that”, is an often used phrase by football fans after seeing a professional player scored what looks like an easy opportunity.

Those words are said with a degree of confidence as they know they’ll never have to prove whether they actually can finish like a professional.

However, one AS Roma fan got the chance to recreate a goal after he posted a comment on the club’s social media post.

Back in 2019, the fan, Marco Nicolai left a comment on a highlight reel of Cengiz Under, stating that he could have scored one of the goals by the Turkish winger.

After seeing his comment, the club invited Marco to the club’s home ground, Stadio Olimpico and asked him to prove himself, giving him three opportunities to recreate Under’s goal against Parma.

Under produced a fine finish after running in from the far post, calmly slotting a low left footed drive into the bottom corner.

With a number of fans inside the ground watching in anticipation, Marco started his attempts to recreate the goal, however, things didn’t exactly go to plan.

In his first attempt, he slipped whilst running onto the ball.

The second try was better as he managed to make contact with the ball, but the contact wasn’t great as he put his shot wide of the post. His last attempt was his closest one, as he managed to make a clean contact with the ball, it looked nearly identical to Under’s shot but the result was very different, Under scored but Marco put his finish just beyond the post.

Three opportunities and Marco failed to back up his words, he couldn’t score the goal.

After that, he was asked on the touchline: “You’ll never write that again?”

Marco replied: “I don’t think so, no.”

A lesson for all football fans that there is a reason why the professionals are on the pitch playing the game whilst you are sat in the stand or at home.
