Arsenal have been tipped to join the race to sign in-form Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

Gakpo, who predominantly plays on the left of the attack, has recorded an incredible nine goals and nine assists in just 11 Eredivisie games this season.

In addition, he also has three goals and two assists from four Europa League appearances.

His performances have earned the attentions of some of Europe's top clubs. The 23-year-old could have began the season at Leeds United, who were keen on signing him in the summer.

The Whites bid over €40 million for the player, according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, in September. Leeds director of football, Victor Orta, even flew to the Netherlands in an attempt to seal a deal.

However, Gakpo stayed put at the Phillips Stadion. Furthermore, reports suggest he does not want a move to Elland Road in January.

As a result, a number of high-profile clubs have emerged on Gakpo's radar, including Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Arsenal linked with signing of Cody Gakpo

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the Gunners will look to be in the race to sign the young forward.

He told GiveMeSport: "Arsenal is an interesting one, because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position.

"Now, Gakpo's priority position, and preferred position, is on the left. But he can play in the centre, and he can play on the right. At the moment, Saka's occupying that right side of the front three just now.

"He would be someone that Arsenal would look at. I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned. Because we know he's trying to build a squad of young players, who have got high ceilings and high potential, so it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically."

Earlier in October, Dutch outlet Voetbal International claimed that, due to their financial position, PSV would have to sell one of their top stars before next July.

Gakpo could be one of the players that is sold - and former PSV youth coach Twan Scheepers believes the forward is the complete player.

Speaking to The Athletic, he explained why the Dutchman is so exceptional: "Everyone has difficulties in puberty. He grew up in a short time, and so his agility, as it used to be, it was gone.

"He had to renew his running and everything. Now, you see he's a really tall guy with so much technique - the complete player on the left, I think, but a complete player who can still get better."
