Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha 'offered record contract' to remain at Crystal Palace

Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha 'offered record contract' to remain at Crystal Palace

Arsenal target Zaha has been offered a new contract.

An Arsenal transfer target has been offered a record contract to stay at his club and become the highest-paid player in their history.

The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League table and face a huge clash against title rivals Manchester City on Wednesday.

Despite needing to maintain focus rumours continue to swirl surrounding potential new signings this summer.

Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his options and one target who could be on his way to the Emirates is Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.

The Ivory Coast international has been subject to interest from several big clubs over the past few years but has so far opted to remain at Selhurst Park.

This season The Eagles have struggled in the league-leading to fresh interest in the 30-year-old from Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, he's been offered a new four-year deal to stay at the South London club which would see him earn £200,000 per week making him by far their highest-paid player ever, according to The Guardian.

He wants European football

It wouldn't be the first time Zaha left Palace in search of better things. Back in 2013 he made the move to Manchester United but failed to shine in a team that struggled following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

He eventually returned to Palace and they have reaped the rewards of his potential.

According to the report he wants assurances that Palace have ambitions to qualify for Europe before he signs, but he isn't getting any younger so may have no choice but to move away.

He's made more than 400 appearances for The Eagles so surely fans would be understanding of his desire to go and compete to win things elsewhere.

Arsenal would be able to offer Champions League football and he wouldn't need to relocate so on paper it seems the most attractive option.

The Gunners might not match Palace's contract offer but it's a sacrifice Zaha should be willing to make if he has the ambitions he says he does.
