Arsenal linked with stunning double transfer of AC Milan stars this summer

Arsenal linked with stunning double transfer of AC Milan stars this summer

This would be a major statement by Arsenal.

Arsenal could complete the signings of AC Milan stars Sandro Tonali and Fikayo Tomori this summer in a stunning double transfer swoop, according to reports.

With four Premier League games still to play, Mikel Arteta and his side are focusing all their attentions on attempting to win a first league title for Arsenal since the Invincibles of 2004.

At the conclusion of the campaign, however, the Spaniard, alongside sporting director Edu, will focus on refreshing his squad ahead of another challenge in the 2023/24 season.

The Daily Mirror claimed on Monday that the Arsenal boss is 'increasingly confident' of completing a deal for West Ham star Declan Rice, and is even planning on opening talks with the 24-year-old Hammers captain when the season ends.

And while the signing of a midfielder is a priority, Arsenal have also been linked with a move for a new centre-back in the summer.

Since William Saliba suffered a back injury against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, the Gunners have conceded 14 goals in seven games, and are yet to keep a clean sheet.

Jakub Kiwior replaced Rob Holding on the right of a central defensive pairing for Tuesday's 3-1 win over Chelsea and impressed, but his natural position is on the left side of a back two.

Therefore, it may be that Arsenal opt to make a new signing this summer - and they may have found the perfect answer.

Arsenal could complete shock AC Milan deal

According to 90min, the Gunners sent scouts to Stadio Olimpico to watch AC Milan's 1-1 draw at Roma on Sunday, in which Tomori, who is right-footed but regularly plays on the left side of defence, started the match at centre-back.

But they will have been left disappointed, as the former Chelsea defender was substituted at half time due to injury.

However, Arsenal scouts will have been able to turn their full attentions to Tonali, who did complete 90 minutes in the centre of Milan's midfield.

Viewed as a successor to Andrea Pirlo in the Italy national team in his early years, the 22-year-old midfielder reads the play exceptionally well, has a wide passing range and is highly skilled at intercepting passes.

His natural role is as part of a two-player midfield, a system which Arsenal sometimes utilise in possession when Martin Odegaard runs forward.

And 90min claim that Gunners scouts were also tasked with analysing Tonali's display in Rome as they eye a potential summer move.

Tonali publicly rejected any advances last summer, stating his desire to stay at Milan, but the Gunners' successful qualification for next season's Champions League may change his mind this time around.

With the Italian midfielder valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt, and Tomori at €45 million, it would take a large sum of money for Arsenal to prise both players away from San Siro - especially as the Daily Mail claimed last month that a 'huge offer' would be required to sign Tomori.

But the two players would transform the Gunners' side, especially with Europe's top competition on the horizon for the club next season.
