Ukraine star Mykhaylo Mudryk was linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the latter end of the summer transfer window. Now, new reports claim that the Gunners are at the front of the race to sign him.

Mikel Arteta's side agreed personal terms with the young starlet, who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Gunners were keen to recruit another winger before the deadline, having already brought in Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.

However, the deal did not proceed, as the London club were put off by Shakhtar's high asking price.

Mudryk is seen as one of the biggest talents in European football. At 21, he is already a fully established member of the Ukraine national squad.

In addition, he has already scored three goals, and provided five assists, in just six Ukrainian Premier League games this term.

But perhaps his finest display came in last season's Champions League. Despite Shakhtar losing 2-1 against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the group stages, Mudryk's performance was such that he was applauded off the field by some of the Real faithful.

This season, he scored and added two assists as Shakhtar demolished RB Leipzig 4-1 away from home.

And Shakhtar president Darijo Srna believes he is the best talent in the world, behind Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

Now, it appears that Arsenal are again going to attempt to sign the left-footed winger, who can also play up front. And new reports have some encouraging news.

Will Arsenal sign Mykhaylo Mudryk?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arsenal are one of two teams leading the race to sign Mudryk.

The other team is AS Roma, with Jose Mourinho's side seemingly keen to add another attacker to the squad.

However, the same source claims that Roma offered Shakhtar €30 million for the player's services. This was turned down by the Ukrainian giants, who are said to want €45 million.

Therefore, it appears that if Arsenal can stump up that kind of money, they should be in pole position to sign the 21-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano on Mudryk

Speaking in an interview with CaughtOffside, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano gave his verdict on Mudryk, with the Gunners chasing' chase for perhaps Ukraine's biggest young star of this generation.

He explained: "I continue to enjoy watching the development of Mykhaylo Mudryk. His performances in the Champions League this season have been amazing!"

Last month, meanwhile, Mudryk told CBS Sports' Ben Jacobs of his desire to play for Arsenal one day: "My dream is to play in the Premier League, of course.

"Arsenal is a very good team, very good manager. So from my side, I can't say no to Arsenal!"

Gunners fans will hope the club can get a deal for the winger over the line, to add to their exceptional array of up-and-coming talent at the Emirates Stadium.
