Aaron Ramsdale has named Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy as his toughest opponent to date ahead of Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane.

Arsenal splashed out an initial £24m (with a further £6m in add-ons) to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United last summer, with Mikel Arteta reinforcing his squad.

Ramsdale, 23, was placed under the spotlight after the transfer fee that the Gunners splashed out in order to bring him to the Emirates.

However, the Arsenal star has overtaken Bernd Leno as the club’s first-choice ‘keeper, with Ramsdale in superb form in his debut season with the Gunners.

Ramsdale could also challenge Everton star Jordan Pickford for the England No 1 spot, with the Arsenal shot-stopper keen to impress ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Speaking to Tubes Golf Life, the England international revealed that the one player he would “hate” to come up against is Vardy.

Ramsdale went on to add that he would “love” to have the 35-year-old Leicester star on his team and claimed Vardy is the type of player who “doesn’t stop running.”

Ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Leicester, he said: “The one I hate playing against most is Jamie Vardy. The guy just doesn’t stop running.

“I’d love to have him on my team, hate playing against him. I’ve played against him five times now, he’s scored four times.”

Ramsdale came up against Vardy and Co earlier in the season and produced a sensational performance to secure Arsenal a 2-0 victory at the King Power.

Arsenal defeated Watford 3-2 at Vicarage Road on Sunday to climb into the Premier League top four, with the Gunners one point ahead of Manchester United.

But Arteta’s men have three matches in hand over the Red Devils and could open up a sizable lead in the race to secure Champions League football for next season.

Arsenal will welcome Brendan Rodgers’s men to the Emirates on Sunday, with kick-off for the Premier League clash slated for 4:30pm UK time.
