"You see..." - Arteta says Arsenal star has a 'spark' again after ending run

Mikel Arteta believes Gabriel Martinelli's "spark" has returned ahead of Arsenal's clash against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Brazilian put an end to a run of eight straight games without a goal, coming off the bench against Aston Villa to find the net in his side's 4-2 victory.

The following week he scored the only goal against Leicester to ensure all three points at the King Power Stadium.

Four days later, Martinelli grabbed a brace during Arsenal's emphatic 4-0 win over Everton, with the 21-year-old well and truly back to his best.

The victory has given the Gunners a five-point cushion over second-placed Manchester City, as they eye their first domestic title since 2004.

Martinelli is the Gunners' top scorer in the Premier League this season, managing 11 goals in 25 matches. And Arteta is pleased with his form.

Arteta: Martinelli has "spark" again

Fresh off signing a new contract at the Emirates, Martinelli is already proving Arteta was right to hand him a new deal.

When asked about the winger's renewed confidence during his press conference, the Gunners boss claimed Martinelli's "spark" had returned.

"It's not about that. It's sometimes about momentum, how you are physically and mentally," Arteta said.

"And then goals and performances and winning matches helps every single day. And Gabi the last three games, scored goals."

"He's playing really well and to see that spark again from him is very much needed."

The January addition of Leandro Trossard has helped provide plenty of competition in Arsenal's attacking line, with Eddie Nketiah dropping to the bench in Arsenal's last two fixtures.

Meanwhile, the imminent return of Gabriel Jesus is likely to give Arteta even more options, with everybody fighting for a place in the starting eleven.
