Arsenal are said to remain interested in signing Moises Caicedo, despite closing in on a deal for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.

The Gunners have reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £12million for the Italian, with the 31-year-old set to sign in the coming hours.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted: "Arsenal and Chelsea are preparing the documents for Jorginho deal — it will be signed in few hours.

"Understand final fee £10m guaranteed & £2m add ons. Deal done, confirmed."

Mikel Arteta has been in the market for midfield recruits this month following an injury to Mohamed Elneny which has caused concern over the lack of depth in the position.

And Jorginho's experience is thought to be the perfect fit to add to Arsenal's title credentials.

Arsenal still keen on Caicedo

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has insisted that the Gunners remain interested in signing Caicedo this month.

Sheth tweeted: "Jorginho to Arsenal close to being agreed. All parties hopeful and willing to get deal done in time.

"Told not an alternative to Caicedo as Arsenal ready to do deal IF Brighton change their stance (very very very unlikely!)"

Brighton have dug their heels in regarding their stance over the 21-year-old, insisting he is not for sale barring an enormous offer.

Arsenal have had two bids worth up to £70million rebuffed by Brighton, with the Seagulls thought to value him at £100million.

Caicedo publicly asked Brighton to allow him to leave the club earlier this month, but manager Roberto de Zerbi is keen for him to stay until the end of the season.

The Ecuador international was left out of the squad that beat Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup Last 16 on Sunday, with the club granting him time off until the transfer window slams shut.

However, The Athletic's David Ornstein disagrees with Sheth, believing that the signing of Jorginho will halt their pursuit of Caicedo.

He tweeted: Arsenal advancing towards agreement to sign Jorginho from Chelsea. 31yo Italy midfielder now most likely #DeadlineDay recruit.

Acceptance at #AFC that Brighton stance on Moises Caicedo means pursuit of 21yo Ecuadorian is over."
