Mauricio Pochettino’s difficult spell as Paris Saint-Germain boss could warn Mikel Arteta against taking the reins at the French club.

Arteta has enjoyed a brilliant season at the Arsenal helm, with his side having led the pack for the vast majority of the Premier League campaign.

Though the Gunners have handed the impetus to Manchester City by squandering a two-goal lead to draw in consecutive weeks, the north London side still have a four-point lead at the Premier League summit.

Of course, while City have a game in hand and welcome Arsenal at the Etihad later this month, the Gunners still have the title in their own hands.

And it seems Arteta’s work in north London is not going unnoticed. According to the Sun PSG are set to change their manager again this summer and are among the European clubs monitoring Arteta.

The Spaniard has just over two years left on his Gunners deal, which he signed before the end of last season, with talks of a further extension having reportedly been put on hold to avoid any distraction from the title race.

Arteta to PSG?

PSG, where Arteta spent a season on loan early in his playing career, are set to part company with Christophe Galtier even if they claim Ligue 1 after another premature Champions League exit.

And the French giants are allegedly keeping an eye on Arteta.

However, Pochettino’s short tenure in the French capital may serve as a warning to the Gunners manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss took the helm at PSG in 2021 having built a dazzling reputation in the Premier League.

However, Pochettino was sacked a year later and replaced by Galtier despite winning the league, suggesting that PSG is something of a poisoned chalice.

From the outside, it appears a club lacking in joined-up thinking in the transfer market, where winning a domestic title is not considered enough.

Indeed, for Arteta, remaining at Arsenal, where the Spaniard is loved and central to the club’s progress on and off the pitch, may prove a better option.

The Sun claim that both Manchester City and Barcelona have a longer-term interest in Arteta, though Arsenal are calm regarding his contract situation.
