Andy Cole And Teddy Sheringham Once Had A Tunnel Fight Where Roy Keane Got Involved

Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham never liked one another and got into it in 1998.

Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham got into a fight in the tunnel while teammates at Manchester United - and of course Roy Keane was involved.

Cole and Sheringham were teammates for four years at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, forming a stunning set of striking options along with Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

They were part of the historic treble-winning side in 1999 and won three consecutive league titles in a row.

But the pair were never friends and, from Cole's perspective, that stemmed from Sheringham blanking him in his England debut at Wembley in 1995.

Cole had replaced Sheringham and the two never developed a relationship in their time playing together at club level.

And there was one time where tempers flared so much that Cole went for Sheringham at half-time during a game in 1998.

Teammates, including Keane, stepped in to try and diffuse the situation.

"For months we haven’t said a word to each other,” Cole wrote in his autobiography, serialised by The Times.

“He isn’t my bag and everyone knows it, but we’ve got on with things. Now, though, Teddy is saying his bit. I tell you, it is about to go off.

“Teddy, several yards further up from me, turned around, looked me in the eyes and growled: ‘Their goal was your fault.’

“What? I scored the equaliser, and now he’s saying that! I run up the tunnel and just as he gets to the dressing room, I’m ready to steam in. I’m screaming all sorts and trying to throw punches, but everyone’s on me, pulling us apart.”

As aforementioned, Keane was playing peacemaker but in an instance that all changed and he was going after Sheringham.

The duo had previously played with one another at Nottingham Forest.

Cole continued: “The next thing I know, Roy Keane has me up against the wall and he’s shouting in my face. ‘What the **** are you doing, Coley? Sort yourself out. We’re a team.’

“I’m not hearing him, but I calm down, and suddenly Roy is going for Teddy, ripping into him, and it’s our turn to try to pull them apart. “What’s all that about, Skip?” I ask a clearly incensed Keane. “You wanting to fight him reminded me of what a ***** he was to me at Nottingham Forest!"

Cole and Sheringham got a telling off from Ferguson shortly after but they were never able to patch things up.

When Yorke arrived from Aston Villa, he essentially acted as a messenger between them and they still continued to not speak.
