Andros Townsend Says Jurgen Klopp ‘Got His Way’ After ‘Moaning For Years’

The Everton man spoke about the influence Klopp’s comments have on the rest of the Premier League.

Everton winger Andros Townsend has ripped into Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp by saying the German has been ‘moaning for years’.

The Toffees man said on talkSPORT that the Liverpool boss has been 'moaning for years' and that he finally 'got his way' with the Premier League set to allow five substitutions per game in the new season.

The former Spurs and Crystal Palace player also said that Klopp has ‘a lot’ of sway when it comes to big decisions concerning the Premier League, he mentioned the German’s ‘moaning’ again when talking about the fixture schedule.

It is true that Klopp has been a driving force behind the imminent introduction of the five substitutions rule, but he was not alone.

14 teams have to come to an agreement before anything can be passed through, and now it seems that most teams in the Premier League are in favour of having more substitutions during a game.

📺 Jurgen Klopp on all Premier League clubs having 5 substitutes:

“We only discuss it as an advantage for the better sides. All the teams who are now at the bottom of the table, I’m really sorry, they are now there with three subs and they would be there with five subs.” 🔴 pic.twitter.com/d0bwPfnWZg

Townsend however still feels that Klopp has had too much say in the decisions.

He said: “I love how Jurgen Klopp has found a way to get his way.”

“He’s been moaning for years. They have been pushing back, and finally, they have given him his five subs.”

Townsend added: “He will probably still use two or three in the biggest games. But who are we to argue with him? In the biggest games, Liverpool and Manchester City, they use one or two subs.”

Premier League confirms clubs can use five substitutes from next season. Subs 'to be made on three occasions during a match, with an additional opportunity at half-time'. Premier League also confirmed summer transfer window will open on June 10 and close at 11pm on September 1.

“They don’t use the four. It’s the games against Crystal Palace or Brentford, they can’t break teams down, 11 behind the ball.”

“Then it's ‘right can we bring on five world-class internationals who are fresher and can change the game’. That’s where it becomes unfair.”

Townsend then spoke about Klopp’s ‘constant moaning’.

He said: “Clearly a lot (Klopp's sway in the Premier League). I think we saw last season, even the season before, constantly banging on and banging on. Votes on votes on votes. Getting pushed back, then all of a sudden, they announced the five subs eventually.”

“Last season again, moaning about the schedule, moaning about this and that, then all of a sudden, I think it was BT Sport putting a game on Saturday evening, which I had never seen before in the Premier League. All of this moaning, moaning puts pressure to give him what he wants and he has got what he wants on many occasions.”
