Alexander Isak took to Instagram earlier this week to release a bombshell statement where he claims ‘promises’ were broken as he reaffirmed his desire to leave Newcastle.
The Swedish striker has dominated gossip columns this summer as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool. The Reds have strengthened their attack with the additions of Hugo Ekitike, who was on Newcastle’s radar prior to his switch to Anfield, and Florian Wirtz from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.
The defending Premier League champions are hellbent on defending their crown and adding more silverware to the Anfield trophy cabinet as they push for a move for Isak.
Isak says 'promises are broken'
Isak’s post on Instagram has effectively severed any relationship between player and club, with the 25-year-old stating: “I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.
“First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way. I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everyone going on, it didn't feel right to be there.

“I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interest of everyone, not just myself.”
And now former Manchester United and Fulham striker Louis Saha has delivered his verdict on the Isak situation.

The Frenchman, speaking exclusively to AdventureGamers.com, believes the Premier League should get involved in the transfer standoff.
“The current situation is not ideal, and there might be a need for the league to implement regulations for players under contract,” Saha said.
“They should have an obligation to play until their contractual issues are resolved with their agents. There should be a sense of fair play where, even if unhappy, players are expected to represent their club professionally as they are compensated. If players refuse to play, there should be clear consequences and a defined process for every player and club, so that no one is surprised.”
Isak replacement keen on Newcastle switch
Isak isn’t the only Premier League striker embroiled in a deadlock as Yoane Wissa pushes for a move to Newcastle.

The Brentford striker, who earlier this week removed all association of the west London side on his official Instagram account, is keen on a switch to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle did see a £40m bid for Wissa rejected on Wednesday as the Bees hold out for a fee between £50m and £60m.
The 28-year-old had previously refused to train or play for Brentford again should they not sanction his move to Newcastle, though the DR Congo hitman has since returned to first team training with Keith Andrew’s side.
