Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso threatened to disconnect his radio during a heated exchange with his race engineer during the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was running in eighth place in the early stages of the race prior to his first pit stop.

However, his pit crew suffered delays in securing his front right tyre, meaning Alonso's final pit stop time came in at 9.2 seconds.

He lost several places as a result, and emerged back out onto the track in traffic.

Understandably, Alonso was less than happy at the time loss and made his feelings clear to race engineer Andrew Vizard.

After being told there were 34 laps remaining in the Grand Prix, Alonso stated: "If you speak to me every lap, I will disconnect the radio."

Following his overtake on Isack Hadjar for 13th place, the two-time world champion shouted: "Trophy for hero of the race!"

Alonso managed to catch up the cars ahead of him and rose to eighth place in the closing laps.

Though he was 45 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton heading into the final three laps, the seven-time champion's Ferrari suffered a brake failure.

Alonso closed to within just 0.4 seconds of Hamilton but ultimately could not overtake him, crossing the finish line in eighth place.

The race was won by Mercedes' George Russell, who finished ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris.

Russell led every lap of the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit to secure his second victory of the season after taking the chequered flag in Canada.

Championship leader Oscar Piastri, who finished in fourth, has seen his lead to team-mate Norris cut to 22 points with a further six races left in the season.

The next race in the calendar, the United States Grand Prix, takes place from Austin, Texas on October 19.
