Red Bull fans stunned by Max Verstappen decision that Christian Horner would never have made during Belgian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen will start Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix in fourth place.

Red Bull Racing fans have been reacting on social media over a decision made during qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix.

On Saturday morning, Max Verstappen won the sprint race around the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, beating McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

However, the Dutchman failed to take the momentum into qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix race as he only managed to put his Red Bull fourth, behind Charles Leclerc, Piastri and Norris.

It has to be said that Verstappen's car underwent a set-up change during the break between the sprint and the Grand Prix qualifying.

Meanwhile, Verstappen's teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, managed his best qualifying since joining the team as he secured P7.

Afterwards, it was revealed that Tsunoda was given a late upgrade to the floor, which was reportedly a spare part for Verstappen's car.

Team boss Laurent Mekies, who recently replaced the sacked Christian Horner, said: "We upgraded his car just before qualifying as we are always pushing to the edge on our car parts quantity.

"But we decided to take the risk to upgrade his car, so that’s why you may have seen we were nearly a bit late to go out in qualifying."

Tsunoda said: "I am happy with it. Also, the team did a good job to bring me the upgrades just before qualifying.

"That was big enough to put me in this position. Also, some bits to go but the floor was big enough anyway. Certainly, I feel much better."

Reacting on social media, Red Bull fans claimed that if Horner was still in charge, the spare part would not have gone to Tsunoda.

One fan said: "Good. Give their team the best chance at points, especially since Max probably won't need a backup."

Another tweeted: "So it was Horner tailoring the car development so skewed towards Max’s direction that it was undeliverable to the second driver."

A third fan added: "If this was Horner, they'd have kept the spare for Max imo."

Someone else wrote: "That decision seems to have paid off. Was this the kind of thing that was lacking under Horner?"

A fifth commented: "And he improve his performance, that say so much about Christian’s leadership."

Another fan said: "Horner would’ve never done this, Yuki's confidence should now get better."
