Eagle-eyed Formula One fans think they may have figured out exactly why drivers always touch their face during post-race interviews.

The 2025 F1 season continues this weekend as the grid will lineup for the popular Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona.

As always, whoever can finish the race on the podium will have to complete their media duty to do an interview looking back on the events of the race.

But fans this weekend will be especially excited to see the post-race interviews, as they will be looking out for one thing after noticing the real reason why they are always fidgeting and touching their face while speaking.

And according to one F1 fan on TikTok, this is exactly why they fidget during the interviews, as several drivers are contractually obliged to show off their watch sponsorship while the camera focuses on them.

Reacting to a video pointing out the trend, one F1 fan wrote: "The fact that lando immediately has his watch on after the race should tell you it’s for marketing purposes."

While one added: "Sometimes you can even see an assistant rush to hand them over the watch last minute before the interview begins."

Another claimed: "Every flick of the wrist is intentional, hence they are always fidgeting with their left hand."

And one, less cynical fan, argued: "Or they could just be hot or something straight after a 2 hour or longer race?"

Heading into the race weekend in Spain, McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are the heavy favourites to come away with the win.

Either Norris or Piastri have won six of the eight races this season so far leading to them taking both first and second in the current drivers' championship standings.

As it stands, it is the Australian driver leading the way in the the championship, should Norris finish Sunday's race ahead of his teammate he will then claim the top spot on the table.

However, local fans will be hoping that either F1 legend Fernando Alonso or Williams' star Carlos Sainz will produce a shock win in their home race.
