Formula One fans are not happy with McLaren after awkward footage of Oscar Piastri's pole lap in sprint qualifying went viral online.

With just nine days left in the 2025 Formula One season, tensions at the top of the Drivers' Championship table are higher than ever,

Heading into the penultimate race weekend of the 2025 season at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar, championship leader Lando Norris, McLaren teammate Piastri and reigning champion Max Verstappen remain in the race.

Friday's qualifying session for the Qatar GP sprint race saw Piastri take pole position, reaffirming himself as a real contendor in the title race despite being 24 points behind his teammate in the table.

But not all Piastri fans are completely happy with the Australian's pole position after footage of the McLaren garage's reaction to the lap was shown on the live broadcast.

For most of the 2025 season, it has been Piastri that has led the Drivers' standings after the 24-year-old enjoyed a dominant start to the current campaign.

However, Piastri's form suddenly dropped off in the middle of the season, allowing Norris to take the lead in the championship, leading some fans to speculate that McLaren were favouring the British driver.

And just as the rumours appeared to be settling they have once again resurfaced as the McLaren garage didn't exactly look happy to see Piastri take pole position in the Qatar Grand Prix sprint.

Reacting to the footage shared on Sky Sports, one fan wrote: "I mean, there not even hiding it... Oscar has to leave."

While another claimed: "McLaren's garage was so sad when Piastri got pole....you'd think they were attending a memorial service."

It is worth noting that the footage captures Norris' side of the McLaren garage, perhaps explaining why the crew weren't exactly thrilled to see their driver qualify in P3, with his championship rival taking pole.

But the footage is still a clear sign that the friendly relationship often seen between the McLaren pair may be struggling as the title race and internal rivalry between the two drivers heats up.

As one fan asked: "Shouldn’t you be happy for your teammate?"
