Former Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko has revealed the truth about his involvement in Max Verstappen's exit clause.
Over the last two seasons, Verstappen, 28, had often been linked with a move away from Red Bull.
The Dutchman was linked with the likes of Mercedes and Aston Martin before committing his future to Red Bull for the 2026 season.
Last year, it was widely reported that Verstappen had an exit clause in his Red Bull contract.

Marko himself admitted the existence of the clause in December 2024, while confirming it had been removed.
He told De Telegraaf (via Motorsport Week): "The clause was changed or removed to lay a foundation for a successful company for the near future.
"He [Verstappen] is one of the greatest sportsmen in the world, earns a lot of money, but above all he sticks to his principles. That hasn't changed since he was 14 years old."

Speaking in a recent interview, Marko was asked about his apparent involvement in the so called exit clause.
As per GP Fans, Marko told Austrian outlet oe24: "None of that is true.
"What do you mean? I negotiated the contract. We've always had a fair relationship, and it's clear that we can't tie Max down if the new engine doesn't work. It was the longest-term Formula 1 contract ever signed anyway."
When asked whether Verstappen would look to engineer a move away if Red Bull fail to meet his expectations, Marko added: "That's logical.

"Max wants to keep his chance of breaking all the records. The new engine is a risk. We'll soon see where we stand with it."
The 2026 Formula 1 campaign will kick off in March with the Australian Grand Prix, taking place around Albert Park in Melbourne.
Red Bull, along with sister team Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, unveiled their 2026 cars this week during an event in Detroit, USA, bringing back a retro shiny livery.
After losing the world title to Lando Norris in 2025, Verstappen will no longer be able to race with the No.1 on his car this year and has since confirmed that he has taken No.3, previously held by Daniel Ricciardo.
