Max Verstappen has fired another dig at McLaren after losing out on the Formula 1 world title.

During the 2025 F1 season, four-time world champion Verstappen was largely on the back foot in the title race.

However, after mishaps from Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris and McLaren, the Dutchman was allowed back in and took the title fight to the last race in Abu Dhabi.

Despite giving it his all, Verstappen's reign as F1 king was ended by Norris, who managed to finish two points ahead.

During a recent video posted on Red Bull's YouTube channel, Verstappen was caught aiming another dig at McLaren.

When opening festive treats that represent a defining moment from his year on and off the track, Verstappen was handed a chessboard.

After being told, "You've got to use a lot of strategy in chess," Verstappen said: "Qatar? I'm going to send this one to McLaren then!"

During the Qatar Grand Prix, McLaren produced a huge blunder by leaving both Piastri and Norris out when there was an early safety car.

The mistake by McLaren effectively handed Verstappen the win around the Lusail Circuit, with Piastri finishing second and Norris fourth.

Speaking after the race, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said: "No excuses, we got it wrong today and take full responsibility as we could have won that race with both drivers on the podium.

"Both drivers deserved more. Oscar was dominant all weekend. Time to debrief, reset, and come back stronger in Abu Dhabi."

Piastri, who was dominant all weekend in Qatar, said at the time: "Pretty gut-wrenching, to be honest. It felt like I drove probably the best weekend I’ve had this year, if not in F1, so to not have the result is painful.

"Clearly we didn’t get it right tonight. I drove the best race that I could as fast as I could and there was nothing left out there, so I tried my best. It wasn’t to be tonight unfortunately."

He added: "I think in hindsight it’s pretty obvious what we would’ve done. I’m sure we’ll discuss it as a team."
