Max Verstappen holds nothing back in huge rant after dismal Italian Grand Prix as F1 lead cut

A frustrated Max Verstappen unleashed a furious rant after his dismal Italian Grand Prix.

On Sunday, Ferrari superstar Charles Leclerc won the Italian Grand Prix in front of a jubilant home crowd at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

The Monagasque managed to finish ahead of McLaren pair Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris after opting for the riskier one-stop strategy.

However, it was another weekend to forget for reigning Formula 1 champion Verstappen, who came home in sixth place, more than 30 seconds behind Leclerc.

Verstappen is still searching for his first victory since the Spanish Grand Prix, which was held in June.

Although he still leads the F1 world championship, Verstappen’s lead has been cut to 62 points.

After the race, a frustrated Verstappen went on an epic rant about what went wrong for him.

As reported by GP Blog, he said: “It was just another dramatic race. Nothing was running, the car was not running at all. I didn't like the strategy at all, and the pit stop was absolutely crap. We had to drive with less power, so basically everything went wrong.

“Where we drove didn't matter anyway. But you still try to drive your best race, but with our two-stoppers that was definitely not the case. On both hard and medium tyres we were too slow.”

Verstappen added: “The way things are going, we are not going to win any more races, but it is what it is.”

McLaren star Norris was left disappointed after finishing third despite starting the race on pole position.

The Englishman was overtaken by teammate Piastri in the first lap and never recovered.

He said afterwards: “I feel he(Piastri) got way too close for comfort. We could both have easily been out in that first corner if I broke one metre later.

“If I could rewind, I would do stuff slightly differently. But it is what it is. Charles won by two seconds in the end and the fact he got ahead probably gained him two seconds over the course of the race."

Norris added: "We couldn't achieve a one-stop as our degradation was too high on the front tyres. That is a weakness for us at the minute.”

F1 will return with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix next weekend, which will take place at the Baku City Circuit on September 15.
