Verstappen and Leclerc's Reaction to Norris Being Asked if He'd Give Piastri Points

The star drivers couldn't believe it what they were asked following the Mexico GP.

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc couldn't hold back their reactions as Lando Norris was asked if he'd give Oscar Piastri points.

On Sunday evening, McLaren star Norris made a statement drive during the Mexico Grand Prix as a dominant performance saw him convert his pole position to a race win at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

In doing so, the Brit took the lead in the Drivers' Championship standings for the first time since he lost it to teammate Piastri following just the fifth race of the season, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

However, not all Formula One fans believe that Norris deserves to be ahead of Piastri, as some have claimed that recent decisions made by McLaren show that the Woking-based team are favouring their British driver.

And when Norris was asked about this and the possibility of giving his teammate some points as payback, both Verstappen and Leclerc were clearly taken aback.

As it stands the race for the 2025 Drivers' Championship title is closer than ever, with only one point separating McLaren pair Norris and Piastri, with reigning champion Verstappen 26 points off the top spot.

Because of this, every major decision throughout the season could end up costing one driver the title and is therefore being assessed even more harshly by fans online.

This led to many revisiting the controversial incident at the Italian Grand Prix in September when McLaren ordered Piastri to concede second place to Norris after the Brit lost the position due to a slow pit stop.

But one media outlet took this even further, creating a poll about the incident that concluded that Norris should give the three points he gained over Piastri due to the team orders back to the Australian, therefore conceding top spot in the championship.

And when a journalist mentioned this poll to Norris during the post-race press conference, Verstappen and Leclerc were visibly blown away, making faces reacting to the question before sharing a look of disbelief.

However, Norris remained relatively unfazed by the bizarre question, as he replied by saying that him giving a race win to Piastri during the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix is an example of how McLaren are always fair.

“Sure. If they want to think that, then they certainly have the right to. They can think whatever they want," Norris replied.

“Yeah. I guess from us as a team, of course, we try and do things fairly. That was the comment we made back then. The same with two years ago in Budapest when I could have won the race and had to let Oscar back through and let him win a race he deserved to win.

“It was no different to that really. It was an incorrect decision that we made as a team to box him first and, or me first here.

“And, yeah, to be honest, if you want to have the three points, they can. But they have the right to think whatever they want.

“But, yeah, like Oscar deserved the win last year in Budapest, I deserve to be ahead at Monza. Simple as that.”
