Max Verstappen radio message has F1 fans convinced that Red Bull aimed savage dig at Mercedes

The Red Bull driver will start on pole at the British Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.

Fans think Red Bull aimed a dig at Mercedes after Max Verstappen secured pole position at qualifying for the British Grand Prix on Saturday.

Verstappen, 27, will start on pole at Silverstone this afternoon as he looks to reduce the deficit between himself and the McLaren duo of championship leader Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix.

Of course, in recent times, the Red Bull driver has been heavily linked with a switch to Mercedes for the 2026 F1 campaign.

There was a mouth-watering moment during qualifying that dropped a significant hint about the Dutch driver.

Verstappen has a remarkable F1 record, having won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

At just 27-years-old, he still has a long and exciting career ahead of him.

Chief executive officer of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Toto Wolff appeared to send a message to Red Bull and Verstappen by putting orange stars on their cars.

The move was supposedly inspired by the design of the iconic Mercedes C111 cars that were unveiled to the public during the 1960s and 1970s, but some fans felt it was a cheeky dig at the Verstappen links.

Some fans are now saying that Verstappen’s engineer Gianpiero Lambiase has made a veiled response to the move over his team's radio.

After Verstappen secured pole position, Lambiase got on the radio to tell the Dutch star that he went "went motor racing".


Some believe that the phrase was a reference to comments made by Michael Masi to Wolff during the controversial 2021 campaign.

“No ways he said that,” one account posted in the replies.

"Toto was later found mumbling, shaking, crying and rocking in the corner," posted another.

“Had me dying that did,” another account said.

They were not the only fans left amazed by the comments.

"Lmao GP with the banter, love to see it," commented one user.

"Cheeky by GP," said another.

One user simply added: "Insane."
