Liam Lawson tipped to be axed for the second time in 2025 as potential replacement named

Liam Lawson lost his Red Bull seat to Yuki Tsunoda after just two races.

Liam Lawson has been sent a stern warning that he could lose his Formula 1 seat for the second time in 2025.

Heading into the 2025 season, Lawson was chosen as Max Verstappen's new teammate at Red Bull, replacing Mexican Sergio Perez.

However, after two disappointing outings in Australia and China, Lawson was brutally axed and was swiftly replaced by Yuki Tsunoda.

Since losing his Red Bull seat, the New Zealander returned to sister team Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, driving alongside fellow rookie Isack Hadjar.

It was expected that Lawson would reinvent himself after his return to RB, but it has been tough for the 23-year-old.

Since his return, Lawson has failed to score a single point for RB, with Hadjar scoring five in the process.

As a result of his continued struggles, Lawson has been warned that he could be dropped for a second time.

According to ex-F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya, Red Bull could have a replacement lined up already.

As reported by Planet F1, Montoya, who won seven F1 Grands Prix during his career, told AS: "I’ll tell you the truth. If Liam doesn’t improve any further, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put (Arvid) Lindblad in at some point. Not at all. I wouldn’t be a little surprised.

"Honestly, Liam has been given the green light last year and has proven that he has what it takes to do a good job. They gave him the Red Bull seat, and he won it."

He added: "The Red Bull situation was complicated and I think it took a very strong blow to his liver, and he needs a lot of psychological treatment after that.

"And if he doesn’t recover soon, I’m sure Red Bull will start looking elsewhere because that’s how they work. It’s Red Bull, it’s a bit like what’s happening with Alpine right now. Whenever Franco [Colapinto] doesn’t do well, the same thing will happen."

Arvid Lindblad is highly rated in the Red Bull system and has previously been tipped to make it all the way to F1. In recent months, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have praised him.
