Lewis Hamilton tipped for shock career change to take part in Winter Olympics

The Formula One legend could leave the track behind for a completely different sport.

Lewis Hamilton has been urged to leave Formula One behind him to consider a surprise career change that would see him compete in the Winter Olympics.

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games across Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy is already one of the most popular sporting events of the year, with millions tuning in across the world.

Among those watching the Games will undoubtedly be the millions of Formula One fans eagerly awaiting the return of the sport on March 8.

Perhaps more than any other driver, seven-time champion Hamilton is really facing the pressure in 2026 following his dismal start to life with Ferrari.

But if things don't work out for the British driver, it appears that he may have a chance to make a major career move and compete in the Winter Olympic Games.

As it stands, Hamilton is contracted to Ferrari until at least the end of 2026, with an option to extend for another year, meaning that if things continue to go poorly this year, either he or Ferrari could decided to call time on their partnership.

And if he is to leave Ferrari and Formula One behind, the famous Jamaican bobsleigh team reportedly are eager to welcome him ahead of the next Winter Olympics.

Hamilton has previously admitted that he would be interested in trying bobsleigh, and Jamaican athlete Tyquendo Tracey thinks that he would be more than capable of competing at the very top.

Should he make the switch, Tracey thinks that Hamilton would excel as a bobsleigh pilot — the athlete who sits at the front of the sled and drives it down the track.

Revealing Jamaica’s interest in Hamilton, Sky Sports reporter Geraint Hughes said: "Tracey is a huge F1 fan — a huge fan of Lewis Hamilton.

"Even though Lewis is getting on in age, 41 years, he still believes Hamilton would be quick enough at the start and could be a brilliant driver.

"Actually, in bobsleigh they’re called a pilot, as you pilot the sled down all the twists and turns on the ice.

"Such a good F1 driver — he could transfer those skills to bobsleigh. Tracey is convinced of it. And because bobsleigh is pretty fast, pretty hairy, pretty dicey — they get up to around 100 miles an hour.

"Lewis Hamilton — that’s chicken feed. He’s used to double that and more. So Jamaica are fans of Lewis Hamilton and would like him to consider switching to the Winter Olympics after his F1 career and coming over to bobsleigh."

However, if initial reports about Ferrari's performance are to be believed, then the Jamaican bobsleigh team may struggle to convince Hamilton to leave the sport anytime soon.

With just a couple of weeks to go, it is widely expected that Ferrari will be among the best performing teams in 2026, suggesting that Hamilton may want to hang around to chase a record eighth title.

Thankfully for the team, the next Winter Olympics aren't until 2030, so they'll have plenty of time to sell the project to Hamilton.
