Fresh details about Lewis Hamilton's strategy during his first week as a Ferrari F1 driver have emerged

Having announced his shock move from Mercedes last year, Hamilton has now completed his first week as a Ferrari Formula One driver.

The Brit has been welcomed by Ferrari fans with open arms, despite his first test laps in the iconic red livery falling short of both his teammate Charles Leclerc and F1 legend Michael Schumacher.

But now, a new report has revealed exactly why Hamilton wasn't performing a the very top of his ability and it's good news for Ferrari fans ahead of the 2025 season.

Hamilton first met his new at the Maranello factory on Monday, before getting his first taste of a Ferrari F1 car on Wednesday at the team’s famous Fiorano test circuit.

The seven-time World Championship drove the 2023 Ferrari F1 car for a total of 30 laps, and will next get behind the wheel in Barcelona from Tuesday as both he and Leclerc will take part in a Pirelli tyre test with a modified 2024 car.

Italian racing driver Vicky Piria, has led Sky Sports' coverage of Hamilton's early days with Ferrari, and she has now provided valuable insight into the 40-year-old's first laps, revealing that he used them to experiment with several different functions in the cockpit.

She told Sky Sports News: “Even though it was really damp, wet and really cold, we saw Lewis try different stuff.

“We saw him work a bit with the E-Diff, we saw him work with the brake balance, saw some locking.

“He wasn’t just going around and doing installation laps, he was actually trying things. Not pushing pushing, but trying things.

“That’s him getting into the momentum, understanding things, the settings on the steering wheel and how they work.

“They learn everything on the sim but then actually transferring the feelings onto the real track.

“So it’s really forward motion for him because it’s not long before Australia.”

Reports have suggested that Hamilton's biggest issue with his new car so far is to do with the Ferrari’s pedals, leading to him locking up twice during his first practice session.

But, Ferrari are expected to have resolved the problem ahead of this week’s second test in Barcelona.
