A massive update has dropped explaining what could happen to Lewis Hamilton if Christian Horner were to join Ferrari.

Shocking news this week confirmed that Red Bull had decided to sack team principal Horner after more than 20 years in the role.

The decision came off the back of what has been a lacklustre season for Red Bull, leading to rumours that star driver and four-time champion Max Verstappen could leave to join rivals Mercedes next year.

Since the news, rumours regarding what's next for Horner have been persistent, with many of them suggesting that he could takeover as the new boss at Ferrari.

But now, a new report has explained exactly what could happen if Horner were to take on a role at Ferrari, and it's not good news for Hamilton.

Other than Horner's shock exit, undoubtedly the biggest recent surprise in F1 was when seven-time champion Hamilton announced that he would be leaving Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season to join Ferrari.

Since the move, the Brit has struggled to find the form that he enjoyed for most of his career at Mercedes, with his best finish coming when he won the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix in March.

Hamilton's failure to reach the heights that he is more than capable of doing, paired with the fact that teammate Charles Leclerc has also struggled this season, has led to current Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur facing increased pressure.

But, although bringing in Horner, who has won eight Championships and 124 Grands Prix may seem like a good idea, Formula 1 analyst Will Buxton cannot see a scenario where Horner is able to work with Hamilton at Ferrari due to their previous clashes.

Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, Buxton claimed: “I can’t imagine this is the last that we will see or hear of Christian Horner.

“There have been rumours already this year that he was being courted by Alpine, rumours linking him to Ferrari. I think that one’s more of a stretch than the Alpine one. He’s very close with Flavio Briatore. That one would seem to be more logical for me.

“If they replaced Fred with Christian Horner, I don’t think Lewis would be a Ferrari driver for much longer!”
