Martin Brundle Awkwardly Snubs Lewis Capaldi After Mistaking His Brother

Martin Brundle's Singapore Grand Prix grid walk saw Lewis Capaldi brutally pied live on Sky Sports.

Martin Brundle snubbed Lewis Capaldi in a hilariously awkward moment on his 'Grid Walk' section ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.

The former driver, who is an integral part of Sky Sports' broadcast coverage, was once again doing his thing at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

In the live and interrupted segment, Brundle spoke to a host of Formula One drivers and officials - as well as catching up with celebrities like comedian Jack Whitehall and actor David Corenswet.

But Scottish singer Capaldi was also interviewed by Brundle, though the chat wasn't without comedy.

At first Brundle mistook Capaldi's brother Anthony for the 'Someone You Loved' hitmaker, saying "Lewis, wonderful to see you".

Older brother Anthony, wearing a McLaren clap and supporting the leading team, replied, "Martin I'm his brother" and a swift apology was issued after fits of laughter.

But it got worse for the 28-year-old when he was blanked for a handshake.

After explaining he was a "big fan", Capaldi offered out his hand to an oblivious Brundle as he said, "Lovely to speak to you on the grid, thank you" - wrapping up their conversation and moving on.

He laughed at himself and shook his own hand while looking at the camera, with the incident quickly going viral on social media.

One fan on X commented: "Poor Lewis Capaldi - went for the handshake with Brundle just a millisecond too late!"

A second viewer wrote: "Lewis Capaldi is all of us when we get aired for a handshake."

A third person said: "Lewis Capaldi took it well, a Martin Brundle grid walk at his best!"

Brundle is always on the go during his grid walks, which are one of the most anticipated elements of Sky Sports' coverage ahead of races getting underway.

He has been snubbed by a whole host of celebrities over the years but on Sunday the shoe was on the other foot at the expensive of Capaldi, a Grammy-nominated singer.

The artist, who recently returned from a lengthy break from touring, performed at the Padang Stage ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix - following the likes of Foo Fighters, Tom Grennan and Maisie Peters in playing in the build-up.

Elton John is slated to perform on the same stage following the conclusion of the race.
