Oscar Piastri posted a blunt message on Lando Norris' social media post celebrating his Formula 1 world title.

Norris claimed his maiden F1 championship after topping this season's drivers' championship standings.

His third-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was enough to pip Max Verstappen, who won Sunday's race, and McLaren teammate Piastri.

After crossing the line, Norris delivered a hugely emotional message on the team radio.

He joined Verstappen and Piastri in the cooldown room and had an 'awkward' exchange with the Red Bull star.

Norris then celebrated his F1 triumph with his team and family, including his mother and father, with the Australian suffering the ultimate humiliation during the celebrations.

The Brit later took to Instagram to celebrate his F1 world title.

He posted an image of himself wearing a hat emblazoned with the word 'champion', with over 1 million users liking it.

Piastri left a one-word comment on Norris' post, writing: "Congratulations."

Piastri, who finished third in the drivers' championship with an impressive 410 points, wasn't as blunt when he spoke to the media in the immediate aftermath of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he finished second in the season-ending race.

Asked how he was feeling, he replied: "Honestly, pretty good. I knew that going into today I needed the stars to align to win the championship.

"Ultimately, I tried my best and put myself in the best position I could to try and win the race and give myself the best opportunity, but it wasn’t to be. I think we can be very proud of the season we’ve had.

"On a personal level, it’s obviously not quite the ending that I wished for but I think when you look at the season as a whole, I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to put in and my team have been able to put in to make so much progress from last year. I’m looking forward to plenty more fights in the future."

Norris was full of praise for Piastri as he called his teammate an 'incredible' driver.

He said: "I have to give a congrats to Oscar, he's driven incredibly, at some point he will get the better of me, as he is an incredible driver. I've got a lot more seasons with him."
