Jeremy Clarkson didn't hold back after watching Max Verstappen claim a shock win at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Formula One season got back underway on Sunday morning as the grid lined up at the Sazuka circuit for the Japanese Grand Prix.

After a thrilling lap during the qualifying session for the race on Saturday, Verstappen took home the race win ahead of championship rival Lando Norris and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.

But Verstappen's shock win wasn't enough to impress popular television personality Clarkson, who made his feelings about the race clear on social media.

Despite Verstappen claiming his first race win of the season and closing the gap in the championship, the Grand Prix was mostly uneventful with perhaps the only noteworthy moment being the Red Bull driver had a near miss with Norris while leaving the pit lanes.

This was particular frustrating for British fans who would have had to get up at 6am if they wanted to watch the race happen live.

And Clarkson was one of those frustrated fans, as he took to social media platform to air his frustrations, writing: "That F1 race this morning gave me an idea of what it might be like to watch cricket."

The former Top Gear presenter hasn't been shy of sharing his opinions about the 2025 season so far, as he previously called out seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton following his inconsistent start to his time at new team Ferrari.

His comments prompted a response from the British driver, who appeared to criticise Clarkson for commenting on Formula One while underestimated how difficult it is to adjust to a new team.

Verstappen's win at the Sazuka circuit takes him to second in the 2025 drivers championship standings and only one point behind current leader Norris, despite the fact he is driving perhaps the worst Red Bull car in years.

Speaking about his win after the race, the Dutchman said: "I'm incredibly happy. It started off quite tough this weekend but we didn't give up, we carried on improving the car and today it was in its best form. Starting on pole was very important."
