George Russell has moved to speak about his Mercedes future amid speculation of talks with other teams.

The Brit won the Canadian Grand Prix to improve his points tally in the drivers standings with the likes of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both missing out on the podium.

According to reports, Russell is a top target for Aston Martin as his contract with Mercedes ends at the end of 2025.

After the win in Canada, the 27-year-old confirmed his interest of staying with Mercedes, but the team have also been linked with four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

The Dutch driver is currently third in the driver standings, but his future with Red Bull is uncertain despite him being on contract with them until 2028.

Verstappen and Russell have a well established rivalry and it remains to be seen if Mercedes would bring the duo together considering they also a talented Kimi Antonelli in their ranks.

He also had a stint with Williams, but joined Mercedes again in 2022 to drive alongside Lewis Hamilton.

The driver stated he was grateful for Mercedes for giving him the chance to be in Formula 1 and confirmed he was not talking to other teams.

Russell said: "No, I'm not talking with anybody else and any teams who have shown interest.

"I have been quite open to say my intentions are to stay with Mercedes. That's always been clear.

“And, you know, I am loyal to Mercedes. They gave me this chance to get into Formula 1."

He also stated that he was not bothered by all the chatter around Verstappen joining the team as he was confident in his ability.

"Why wouldn't teams be interested in Max if everybody could, if every driver had a clean, no contracts for next year, Max would be the number one for every single team. And that's understandable," said Russell.

While another added: "Russell can sign with Merc whenever he wants. He has the seat sealed. There is no reason for him to be hasty about it. Wait till as late as possible to see if any other better opportunity is available. If not, then the Merc seat is waiting for him."

A fan also expressed: "The dude will be signed by any team on the grid if he is free I don't think he has to worry too much also wasn't there news only yesterday that Aston was already looking at him in case he is available."

The British driver also stated that if he drove well his position would not be under risk and there was no rush in contract negotiations.

Mercedes will certainly want to keep Russell, but if a driver like Verstappen is available it only makes sense for them to try and bring him to the team. However, if Russell is available there will be no shortage of offers for him as he is also one of the best drivers on the grid.
