A Formula 1 team has been dealt a big blow just days before the 2025 season gets underway.

This weekend, the new F1 campaign finally begins with the Australian Grand Prix, which will be held around Albert Park in Melbourne.

Ahead of the first race, there have been a few notable changes, particularly in the driver line-up.

Throughout the winter break, all the headlines were dominated by Lewis Hamilton after his high-profile move from Mercedes to Ferrari.

Meanwhile, the likes of Carlos Sainz, Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon have all moved teams.

However, just days before the season starts, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls (RB) have been dealt a big blow.

RB hit with key departure days before 2025 season begins

On Monday, it was reported by Planet F1 that Jody Egginton is to leave his role as technical director.

Egginton first joined RB (Formerly known as Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri) back in 2014 as head of vehicle performance.

He was then named deputy technical director to James Key in 2017 before being promoted in 2019 after Key's exit.

Egginton is set to leave RB at the end of the month as he prepares to start his new role as engineering director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies on April 1.

In a statement, Egginton said: "Being part of this team for over 10 years has been a fantastic experience for me, providing some very memorable moments. But after almost 20 years of focusing solely on Formula 1, I feel it’s time for a change.

"I will have a great remit as Engineering Director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies and the company currently has an exciting list of projects, so I can’t wait to get started on this new challenge."

Meanwhile, RB team principal Laurent Mekies added: "As our long-serving technical director, he has been instrumental in driving innovation and fostering team growth.

"I want to thank Jody for his expertise and the important contribution he has made to the team and the company’s upward trajectory. We wish him all the best for this new challenge within the Red Bull family."
