Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, have made a late change to the rules of the Mexico Grand Prix after an incident involving Max Verstappen.

This weekend, the 2025 F1 season continues at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico, with the likes of Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri looking to take victory.

Ahead into the latest race weekend, Piastri remains the championship leader, but after a string of disappointing results, the Australian's lead over Norris at the top of the standings has been cut to just 14 points.

Meanwhile, reigning champion Verstappen is back in the race to win the world title as he is now only 40 points off Piastri.

In a document released ahead of the weekend, it has been spotted that a late rule change has been made.

As per the FIA, any drivers who miss the apex at Turn 4 and enter the run-off area will have to rejoin the circuit after Turn 5 using the asphalt rejoin route.

The document stated: "For the safe and orderly conduct of the event, any driver who misses the apex of Turn 4, enters the run-off area, and crosses the solid yellow line painted across the run-off area (yellow arrow in the image below) with all 4 wheels may only re-join the circuit after Turn 5 using the asphalt rejoin route (highlighted orange in the image below). Drivers may only use the grass if it is clearly unavoidable."

Max Verstappen and Lando Norris incident during 2024 Mexico GP

Last year, Verstappen and Norris were involved in a dramatic moment at Turn 4.

The incident began when Norris tried to overtake on the outside at Turn 4, despite earning the right to racing room, Verstappen forced the Brit onto the grass.

The pair then went off the track at Turn 8, with Verstappen slapped with two 10-second penalties for forcing another driver wide and then gaining a lasting advantage by passing off track.

In the end, Verstappen finished in sixth place after a brilliant recovery drive, with Norris coming home second.
