Ferrari star Charles Leclerc has revealed who he would bet on to win the 2025 Formula 1 world title.

Heading into this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the race to become world champion is ramping up.

Currently, Oscar Piastri leads Lando Norris by 14 points. However, Red Bull star and reigning champion Max Verstappen is threatening to take the title away from McLaren.

Having trailed by more than 100 points before the summer break, the Dutchman has cut the gap to Piastri to just 40 points after winning three out of the last four races.

With Verstappen hot on their heels, the McLaren pair have been at war. Norris tangled with Piastri in Singapore before the Australian took his teammate out during a chaotic opening lap in the United States Grand Prix sprint.

Speaking ahead of what could be a pivotal weekend in the race to become world champion, Leclerc has made his prediction.

When quizzed on who he thinks is the favourite, the Monegasque stated that he has not been surprised by Verstappen's comeback.

As reported by Planet F1, Leclerc said: "I’m never surprised, I think Max is always driving at a very high level. And considering Red Bull is probably the team that have pushed the developments more than other teams.

"I think McLaren has stopped quite a while ago, we also stopped quite a while ago. Mercedes and Red Bull are the two teams that pushed for a bit longer so it’s not a complete surprise."

The Ferrari driver then said that if he had to bet, he would still back the McLarens.

Leclerc added: "I’ll be very surprised if he manages to win the championship from where he is. He is always on top of things and always performing extremely well, but it’s still 40 points and 40 points is significant.

"So if I had to bet $1, I probably would bet on the McLaren drivers but you can never rule out Max really."

He continued: "Which one [of the McLaren drivers] that’s a difficult one. I mean, Oscar has been very, very strong this season and has been very solid.

"If you look at the last two, three races, it seems that Lando is coming back to a very, very strong form. So it’s going to be close."
