A former darts star has claimed that one a current player looks “vulnerable” ahead of the PDC World Championship.

Darts fans are just over a week away from being able to watch perhaps the biggest event on the annual calendar as the PDC World Darts Championship gets underway in London.

Held inside London's iconic Alexandra Palace, the popular competition is set to get underway on Thursday 11 December as 128 players from across the globe compete to see who is the best.

The likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price are all set to compete alongside players from outside the the Premier League.

Despite missing out on featuring in the Premier League, Australian darts player Damon Heta remains one of the more popular players set to compete in the World Championship later this month.

However, according to former professional player and analyst Matt Edgar, Hera's recent form is a serious concern heading into the competition.

In the past year, ‘The Heat’ has dropped to world number 16 following first-round exits at the last five ranked majors, suggesting he could be at risk of an early loss in the Ally Pally.

“Damon seems to be struggling, out again first round in the Players [Championship Finals]," Edgar said on the Mission Darts podcast.

“When we looked at the Premier League selection for last year, there was a genuine chance Damon Heta could have gone in the top four of the world.

“He’s now 16th. The thing that Damon Heta has always lacked throughout his career is that one big payday.

“He was challenging the top four in the world without really getting anything more than £35,000 on his rankings."

Heta's only televised victory in months remains his World Series Finals opener against Joe Cullen in September.

“For me, now, there’s alarm bells ringing a little bit with Damon Heta. We’ve seen people struggling in the past," Edgar claimed.

Heta will begin his World Championship campaign with a match against Steve Lennon on December 12.

This year's competition will mark Heta's seventh participation in the World Darts Championship, where he is yet to progress past the fourth round.

Edgar added: “I think Damon Heta will get through it, but how far does he go in this tournament?

“I think he’s always looking a bit vulnerable.”
