Luke Littler threatens extreme action after referee intervenes in Nathan Aspinall clash amid calls to ‘walk off’

Luke Littler appeared to threaten a boycott of darts events in the Netherlands following his 10-9 victory over Nathan Aspinall at the World Series of Darts Finals.

Littler edged to a final-leg victory on Saturday (September 19) as the match was twice interrupted by rowdy spectators in Amsterdam.

Despite the high-level darts on show, the match was overshadowed by the behaviour of some members of the crowd, with referee Charlie Corstorphine forced to intervene.

The referee took to the microphone and pointed towards a section of the crowd whose members insisted on booing while Littler was throwing.

Corstorphine said: “Ladies and gentlemen, please, out of respect to both of the players, please do not whistle whilst they are throwing. Thank you.”

Littler and Aspinall urged to walk off at World Series

Eventually, play continued, but some punters could still be heard whistling during both players’ throws, with fans on social media even urging the players to walk off stage until they stopped.

One fan said: “My head can never wrap around the idea that someone would pay good money to watch someone in darts and then whistle to not get your moneys worth. It clearly is affecting performance, I get Littler isn’t a favorite in the Netherlands, but it’s messing with Aspinall just as much.”

Another added: “The whistling going on simple move the finals away from Netherlands and take it to a country who will appreciate the player.”

A third commented: “I get the Dutch not liking littler but the whistling is a joke, annoying both players.”

Luke Littler threatens boycott of events in the Netherlands

As expected, Littler directly addressed the incident after the match, telling reporters that he may boycott darts events in the Netherlands, having previously threatened similar action after receiving negative treatment from German fans.

Littler said: “100%. Obviously, I don't know about the Germans. I've not been for a very long time. We'll have to see in Dortmund if it changes, if it stays the same.

“But yeah, if the Dutch stay like this, then I'm not going to do any Euro Tours over there. There's just no point in me travelling, wasting my time whilst I'm getting booed.

“I just want to play my darts, obviously sign autographs and stuff. Because the past two nights I've done nothing. I've just walked off stage, not thanked anyone. There's no point thanking everyone when they boo me.”

Littler faces Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals on Sunday (September 20), before the semi-finals and final take place later in the day.
