Gary Anderson Praised For Sportsmanship 'He'll Probably Get Fined For'

The moment occurred during Anderson's Players Championship 26 fourth-round match against Callan Rydz.

Gary Anderson has been praised for a remarkable display of sportsmanship during the Players Championship 26 event on Tuesday.

The event, the first of two PC tournaments taking place in the German city of Hildesheim this week, was won by Gerwyn Price.

The Welshman defeated Gian van Veen 8-5 in the final while averaging 109.

Van Veen, who has been among the top performers on the ProTour this season, got the better of Anderson in the semi-finals.

Anderson capitalised on a number of top players not being present in Germany to ease through to the last 16, where he took on Callan Rydz.

With the score at 3-3, Rydz left himself on 78 and had a dart at double 20 to win the leg.

However, there was disruption in the background - something Anderson had already picked up on after his previous throw.

As Rydz prepared for a double attempt, Anderson shouted: "People are playing darts here, f**k off."

Rydz subsequently missed his dart at double 20, with Anderson also needing tops to win the leg when he returned to the oche.

However, the Scot decided to bust his score by hitting the bullseye, allowing his opponent to have another attempt at winning the leg.

Rydz took out double 10 with his first dart to take a 4-3 lead - though he wouldn't win another leg, as Anderson secured a 6-4 win to progress to the quarter-finals.

Commentator Dan Dawson explained: "Right, so Gary Anderson's got annoyed with some noise. he's stepped around the booth to go and tell people to stay quiet. He'\s done that while Callan Rydz is throwing. He's missed the darts.

"He's [Anderson] come back needing 40, thrown it straight in the bullseye to bust his score first dart, and then Callan Rydz has stepped in to break."

Reacting to the incident on Twitter, one fan wrote: "Great to see from Gary. A proper show of sportsmanship."

A second said: "That was absolute class, both the gesture and the fact he just hit the bull so nonchalantly."

A third noticed: "Hits bull first dart then a 180 to kick off his next leg, man's still got it."

And a fourth stated: "Class act Gary Anderson."
