Incredible images of the SCG pitch has gone viral ahead of hosting the fifth and final Test match of the Ashes series.

Australia lead England 3-1 heading into the final Test match of the Ashes.

The hosts raced into a three-nil lead to regain the Ashes, while the tourists won the fourth Test match to secure their first win down under since 2011.

England chased down a target of 175 at the MCG in a stunning Test match that lasted just two action-packed days.

The Melbourne pitch came under fire, given 36 wickets fell in six sessions after MCG head curator Matthew Page and his team left 10mm of grass on the surface.

Speaking on what would have been the third day of the fourth Test, Page said he was in a 'state of shock' and expressed his disappointment of it lasting just two days.

"I've never been involved in a Test match like it and hopefully I'm not involved in a Test match like it again," he said.

The very green-looking pitch sent social media into overdrive as some fans reckon another two-day Test match is on the cards.

One X user joked: "2 day test match loading."

A second said: "Test cricket is well and truly dead and buried."

A third questioned: "Will this test match last longer than two days..."

Another added: "Looks Greener than MCG. 15 mm grass? One day test?"

Judging by the green pitch, Josh Tongue could be a crucial figure, having picked up seven wickets at the MCG.

England will be without Gus Atkinson, who suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth Test, with Matthew Potts in line to play in the fifth Test.
