The Premier League Champions kick off their title defence away to West Ham this weekend, looking to avoid defeat on the opening day of the season for a second successive season.

Guardiola's side, who suffered a 3-1 defeat during a lacklustre display against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield last weekend, notably lost to Tottenham on the opening weekend of the season last year.

Despite Julian Alvarez scoring on his competitive debut, late goals from Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez helped Jurgen Klopp's side to victory at the King Power Stadium, extending City's winless run against the Merseyside club to four matches.

The Sky Blues quickly turn their attention to preparations for Sunday's clash with West Ham, an opponent who the Champions have failed to overcome on their past three visits to East London.

City came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with the Hammers in May.

Two second-half goals ultimately proving crucial to the Blues retaining the title one week later.

Up to four players could make Premier League debuts for City this weekend, after the Blues added Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega to their squad during the summer.

Haaland and Alvarez both featured in the Community Shield last week, while all four played during the Champions' pre-season tour of the United States.
