From Germany: Manchester City Continue To Target Move For Bayern Munich Star

According to a new report from Germany, Premier League champions Manchester City continue to hold interest in Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry.

The 2022/23 season is one that presents major changes at the Etihad Stadium.

Firstly, the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez are likely to bring an end to the club’s favoured false-nine system utilised over the past two campaigns.

Another significant talking point has been the addition of Kalvin Phillips, who joined Manchester City as a successor to Fernandinho - with the Brazilian having departed the club following an illustrious nine-year spell.

Zack Steffen’s switch to Middlesborough looks all but confirmed, with Stefan Ortega being brought in as the Sky Blues’ brand-new number two option between the sticks this summer.

Despite the Manchester City fanbase largely embracing the prospect of their side entering uncharted territory, Chelsea-bound Raheem Sterling’s imminent departure has certainly split opinion.

While some believe it is the right decision to sanction the England international’s sale this summer, many have expressed the need to bring in a replacement for the outgoing winger.

With a combined 225 goals and assists in 337 games across all competitions for the Sky Blues, the man who many deem a club legend has been synonymous with the team’s success during the Pep Guardiola regime thus far.

Cementing his place amongst some of the elite wide forwards in the game at Manchester City, there are many that fear that the side will miss his unique profile coupled with his sheer output in the following campaign.

It seems as if the Premier League champions have kept an ear out for such worries as they seem to have discovered the man to replace Raheem Sterling.

As per a new report from German newspaper SportBILD, translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry.

While the German international has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea recently, such claims have been rendered baseless.

As things stand, the former Arsenal wide-man’s future remains uncertain, as his current contract is set to expire in 2023.

In addition, the Champions League winner has put contract talks worth €19 million per year ‘on ice’, which is understood to have been perceived as a blatant rejection by the Bavarian club.

With the risk of losing one of their key assets on a free transfer next summer, the Bundesliga champions are likely to be open to cashing in on Gnabry.

Recently, it was reported that Manchester City had sent scouts to watch the former VfB Stuttgart winger in action to gauge whether he fits into Pep Guardiola’s style of play.

However, the revelation was quickly deemed false, with several sources previously claiming that the club do not intend on signing a replacement for Raheem Sterling.

With the rumours involving Serge Gnabry not set to stop anytime soon, this is a story worth monitoring.
