Manchester City host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday.

City are bidding to win the competition for a fifth time under Pep Guardiola, having previously won the Carabao Cup on four successive occasions between 2018 and 2021.

The Blues face Chelsea in a heavyweight third round clash at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

City dramatically beat Fulham on Saturday afternoon courtesy of a late Erling Haaland penalty, while Chelsea suffered a second straight Premier League defeat, losing 1-0 to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Wednesday evening will be Raheem Sterling's first opportunity to return to the Etihad Stadium, after leaving Manchester City in the summer for an initial £47.5 million.

Sterling made over 300 appearances for the Blues, winning 11 trophies and scoring 131 goals.

The midweek meeting will also be both sides penultimate fixture before the pause for the FIFA World Cup, as Pep Guardiola and Graham Potter face a selection dilemma.

Guardiola is set to welcome summer signing Kalvin Phillips back to the matchday squad, after a prolonged absence due to injury.

Ahead of the meeting at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, here is how we predict Manchester City to line-up against Chelsea.

Stefan Ortega will return between the sticks to make his third Manchester City appearance in midweek.

After an incredible full debut against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League, Rico Lewis' impressive showing will result in the teenager starting at right-back for the Blues on Wednesday.

On the opposite flank, Sergio Gomez can be expected to start at left-back, making his fifth start for the club.

In central defence, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte both look set to start, after being named substitutes at the weekend.

As Kalvin Phillips is not expected to start, one predicts Ilkay Gundogan to feature in the central defensive midfield role.

Ahead of the German, both Jack Grealish and Phil Foden could occupy the central midfield in fluid positions.

Out wide, both Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer can both be expected to be handed starts, with one of the latter's two goals for the Sky Blues having come in the Carabao Cup.

Up front, Erling Haaland will look to add to his goal-scoring tally in the Blues' penultimate fixture before the World Cup pause.
