Manchester City face Nottingham Forest in their fifth Premier League game of the season on Wednesday evening.

Pep Guardiola's men returned to winning ways at the weekend as Erling Haaland smashed in a 21-minute hat-trick after Bernardo Silva reduced a two-goal deficit against Crystal Palace.

City began their title defence with wins against West Ham and Bournemouth before Newcastle put them to the test on matchday three and claimed a well-deserved point against the Premier League champions.

The visitors suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham last time out, with Harry Kane striking within five minutes and then late on to maintain the north Londoners' unbeaten start to the season.

Manchester City were without all of Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Nathan Ake against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Guardiola has provided an encouraging update on the trio ahead of Wednesday's game but is unlikely to rush his players back from the sidelines as City embark upon a testing run of fixtures.

A league game away at Aston Villa on Saturday will be followed by a trip to Spain as Manchester City begin their Champions League campaign against Sevilla in the group-stage next week.

The Blues will then face their biggest test of the season so far as Tottenham and Antonio Conte visit in pursuit of further success in east Manchester after claiming a last-gasp victory at the Etihad Stadium in February.

For now however, Guardiola will be keen on getting the job done against Nottingham Forest, who have made a series of eye-catching moves in the transfer window ahead of Thursday's deadline.

Julian Alvarez could be set to make his first start in the Premier League after another impactful display off the bench against Crystal Palace.

Erling Haaland has netted six times in four league starts this season and has taken no time to adjust to life in England.

Aymeric Laporte remains out of action for the Blues and is not expected to return until the end of September, as per reports in England.
