If there is a club in English football that are clearly admirers of the talent pool in South America, it is none other than Manchester City.

After all, the Sky Blues entrusted a young Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras as the ideal successor to the club’s all-time top scorer in Sergio Agüero.

The youngster was ultimately signed for £27 million by Pep Guardiola’s side, as he went on to be nurtured into Europe’s most complete forwards.

Similarly, the Premier League champions completed the signing of Yan Couto as their right-back for the future in 2020.

In January as well, City signed one of the continent’s most talented young forwards in Julian Alvarez, who is set to serve as an understudy to Erling Haaland this term.

While the evidence suggests that Manchester City tend to have a plan in place for South America’s unearthed gems, it’s safe to say that things did not work out as planned in the case of Marlos Moreno.

Signed from Atletico Nacional in the summer of 2016, many claimed that Guardiola had a set vision for the Colombian winger, who had been brought in during the Catalan’s first summer window.

However, loan spells to the likes of Deportivo La Coruña, Girona, Flamengo, Santos Laguna, Portimonense, Lommel SK and Kortrijk have suggested that the Spaniard did not deem him fit enough to don the sky blue shirt.

At 25 years of age and with next to no chance of making the grade at the Etihad Stadium, he may be set for yet another loan switch.

As per a report by Spanish outlet Marca, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are keen on Marlos Moreno spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Troyes, where he is currently training.

However, it has been mentioned that the player remains unconvinced, as he eyes a move to England.

It has also been claimed that a number of Championship clubs are keen on signing Moreno this summer.

Additionally, Sunderland are understood to have submitted a bid to complete his signing, which is said to have been deemed as ‘insufficient’ by the Sky Blues.

Another English side that have shown an interested in signing the want-away star are Middlesbrough, who are also plying their trade in the second tier of English football.

Interestingly, it has also been mentioned that there is interest in Turkey surrounding Moreno.

However, it is stated that a final decision around the player’s future will be made in the coming days.

Ultimately, it would be no surprise to see City sanction Marlos Moreno’s sale, as his current contract only has one year remaining.

He would add to the record-breaking sale total already amassed by City this summer.
